Tori Spelling is an actress and the daughter of American film and television producer Aaron Spelling. Tori is best known as the character Donna Martin in the 1990s prime time soap opera Beverly Hills 90210. During her career, she has appeared in more than two dozen movies and television shows.
Tori was born Victoria Davey Spelling on May 16, 1973. As the daughter of Hollywood producer Aaron Spelling and Carol "Candy" Marer, Tori enjoyed a privileged upbringing in Beverly Hills, California. Under the shadow of her father's fame, Tori worked to achieve a Hollywood name in her own right. However, her career launched with a series of guest-starring roles in a number of Aaron Spelling productions, including The Love Boat, Saved by the Bell, T.J. Hooker and FantasyIsland.
Tori's big break came in 1990, when she was cast in the teen soap opera Beverly Hills 90210. The show, co-produced by her father, Darren Star and Spelling Television, was an instant hit among American teenagers. With a 10-year season, Beverly Hills 90210 took students at a fictitious California high school through such weighty issues as alcoholism, date rape, AIDS and teen suicide.
During Tori's run on Beverly Hills 90210, she accepted a number of additional projects, including the made-for-television movies A Friend to Die For (1994), Awake to Danger (1995), Deadly Pursuits (1996), Co-Ed Call Girl (1996), Mother, May I Sleep With Danger? (1996) and The Alibi (1997). She also starred in big screen films with roles in such movies as Scream 2 (1997) and Perpetrators of the Crime (1998) and in the independent films Trick and The House of Yes.
After 90210's final season, Tori continued acting, landing both television and cinema roles. In 2004, she married Charlie Shanian, but the union was brief, with a separation in 2005 followed by divorce in April of 2006. Just a month later, Spelling was married again, this time to Canadian actor Dean McDermott. (The breakup of McDermott's former marriage to Mary Jo Eustace, whom he divorced to marry Tori, is detailed in Eustace's recollection The Other Woman.) Aaron Spelling died just two months after his daughter's second marriage.
Tori and Dean went on to star in their own reality show, Tori & Dean: Inn Love, in which the couple renovated and managed an inn while the actress was pregnant. The inn was purchased with Tori's $800,000 inheritance from her father. (Tori's brother also received $800,000.) Initially broadcast in 2007, the show is currently in its second season. Tori and Dean's first child, Liam Aaron McDermott, was born on March 13, 2007.
The actress continues to accept roles and make appearances, including the 2007 film Housesitter, a guest-star part in the television series Smallville in 2007 and an appearance at the MuchMusic awards in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Tori is currently pregnant with her second child; the news was announced in January 2008. The pregnancy is expected to be an area of focus for the upcoming renewed season of Tori & Dean: Inn Love.
